Restored Rusty Relics Events

August 4 Honor George Lewer by attending the Maywood Night Out. We used to meet at George’s and go as a group (free food once there). Eddie Garfield has set up a meet-and-go; we meet at 4:30 at the closed Maine Evergreen Nursery on 561 Spring Valley Road (Maywood), and at 4:45 travel together the ten blocks or so to the park, Spring Valley Road and West Pleasant Avenue. They close off the park at 5 pm.

August 11 Steering meeting, 7 pm, via phone.

August 23 Outdoor sandwich swap, noon, Veterans Memorial Park, Bergenfield

August 26 JCC seniors event, Tenafly, 11 am to noon. Rain/excess-heat date, August 27. They will feed and water us at the event. RSVP to Dave Z to make sure there’s food for you.

October 11 Meet at the Fort Lee Revolutionary War Museum, 1 pm for lunch, followed by a tour along the strategic withdrawal route. (Thanks, Barry, for setup)

OUTSIDE EVENTS

August 22Brightview Senior Living, Tenafly, Second Annual Car Show and Block Party, 12-3, $25 including BBQ-type food, activities, food trucks, fire truck, plants, oils, teas, stilt walker, sand art, face painting, etc. Space limited.

Sept. 20Joey’s Fund (Closter). 10 am to 3 pm, giveaways, $20 pre-register (RRR may refund) or $25 on-site.

Steering teleconferences are on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 pm. Meetings are usually the fourth Sunday of the month. Next: Aug. 11

Meeting addresses and directions

Indoor meetings are at the VFW, 6 Winslow Place, Paramus, NJ. This is right where Route 4 and Route 17 meet—if you take 4 West to 17 North, it's the very first street (Madison): you get off Route 17 North at that street, make the first right, proceed until you get to the VFW on the corner). If you miss that street, go up to the first exit, right turn onto Farview Avenue, right onto Farview Terrace, left onto Madison, it’s on the corner. You can also take Route 4 or whatever to Farview Avenue, just go West onto Farview Terrace, left onto Madison, it’s on the corner.

Coming South on 17, get off at Century Road, cross 17, right on Farview Ave, right onto Farview Terrace, left onto Madison, it’s on the corner.

Outdoor meeting note: they have blocked off the Brey Lane route. Enter from New Bridge Road to Wildrose, making a left onto Melrose, or from Prospect take Whitman and make a right turn onto Melrose.

These meetings are at the pavilion in Veterans Memorial Park—the farther pavilion from Newbridge Road.

When we go to the Bergenfield Museum, this is where it is (use 99 Cooper Street, Bergenfield in your GPS):

You can see West Church Street on this map, near the bottom, under the main part of the park; that’s where Bergenfield has lineup for its Memorial Day parades. You can usually only get there via the Washington Avenue (east) side, and lineup starts about midway along Cooper’s Pond Park (which has indoor toilets). There may be some lineup on the side streets as well.
